Promoting Your Internet Business The Correct Way
March 20, 2008
There is a diversity of entrepreneurs on the Internet trying to promote their websites and increase the amount of visitors. They are utilizing a variety of methods from signing in to chatrooms and striking up conversations in hopes of extending invitations to visit to resorting to sending unsolicited emails to thousands of people trying to make a quick buck. In either case, most of these methods are not very successful longterm and will just as likely give a business horrible credibility rather than building a viable website presence.
Fortunately, we understand that a lot of people come online and see someone else doing the same thing and think it’s okay. Then many people will just delete their messages or emails without saying another word, which allows them to keep on doing it. However, if they were taught the correct ways to advertise themselves and their business more traffic would wind up on their websites.
Realizing that the issue is not that people advertise, but that the method of delivery is incorrect is the crux of the problem. A prime example of this would be forum advertising, long a mainstay in the entrepreneur’s arsenal. When a forum is targeted to the product or topic being promoted, it is easy to get visitors.
This means if your website talks about the abilities of getting PC satellite TV then find a forum that has people asking questions about it all the time. When you join, all that is need is an avatar and a signature that masks the name of your website. Something that is clickable that says, “PC satellite TV answers you seek” or something of that nature to entice people to click on it.
You set up a signature file and an avatar and you start participating in forum activities. In your signature line you put a “clickable link” that reads something like “PC Satellite Television Questions Answered . . .” and a call to action with a “Click Here”, “Read More” or the like. As you post, your signature is also posted.
Test your signature just like you would any advertising by creating two landing pages. Check the visitor logs on both pages to see which signature draws the most attention. You can also use it to prove to yourself the need for picking relevant forums. Pick out two different types of forums: targeted to your niche and one that is broad and general. Use two different signatures, then check your logs. You will immediately realize the need for finding a forum that is close to your topic.
Forum advertising done the right way can be both effective and provide long-term traffic to your site. It is also time consuming in a world where most people don’t have much time to spare. However, just remember, if you join a forum and only post once or twice a week, that will still build steady traffic. The impact is immediate and can last a great deal of time.
