E-Business – Kenyan traders call for efficiency in tax authority – Afrique en ligne

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyan business community said in a new report obtaine d by PANA here Thursday tax collection in the country was still inefficient and w ants urgent measures to plug loopholes for evasion and pilferage. Commenting on the outcome of a survey undertaken in 176 countries in the world , which ranked Kenya 72 overall, the business community, under the aegis of the K enya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), tax remission is riddled with inefficie n cy and graft and required a change of procedure. Kenyan Association of Manufacturers said in its latest installment on the stat e of the Kenyan economy, titled ‘Doing Business in Kenya 2008′, the country’s ta x authority, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), must rise to the challenge of eas i ng procedures to ease tax collection. The report said the forum discussed eleven indicators on business regulations that enhance or constrain business activities in comparative perspective to competitor economies . The regulations measured affect the ten stages of a business life, including sta rting a business, dealing with licenses, employing workers, registering property, getting credit, protecti ng investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and closing a business. read more
