(E-Business) Compliance business a growth industry – Galesburg Register-Mail
May 30, 2009
A rapidly growing portion of the business of Champion Technology Group deals with compliance issues, new laws being passed to make sure banks and other financial institutions are properly accounting for their money. As companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac began to melt down, bringing with it a recession that at times looked like it would become something much worse, Brad Price, who along with his brother, John, owns Champion Technology Group, said that compliance issues have become more important. As a result, while Champion has felt some impact from the recession, as some companies delay projects that Brad Price said he’s sure will still be done eventually, the compliance business has picked up. The software and hardware compliance the company sells, installs and then acts as a consultant for, is also geared toward future growth, said marketing representative, Tim Bridge. John Price said many of the regulations that have been imposed upon the large companies will eventually trickle down to the smaller companies, meaning the compliance business will continue to be a growth industry. read more

Some small companies grow as large firms cut costs – The Associated Press- About: E-Business
May 26, 2009
Allegiance, a software company in South Jordan, Utah, has enjoyed triple-digit sales growth in the past 18 months and has hired 14 people in the past year, said Chris Cottle, the company’s vice president of marketing. Melanie Jones, e-commerce manager for Ultradent, a dental equipment company also based in South Jordan, said Allegiance allowed it to streamline how it gathers feedback, making it easier to find and respond to customers who were unhappy. Ultradent started using Allegiance software in 2006 and estimates it saved about $330,000 in sales in the first year — and more every year since. So while Ultradent, a company of almost 800 employees and more than $100 million in annual sales, has made significant cuts — including halting 401K matches, stopping subsidized lunches and eliminating the practice of cashing out on sick and vacation days — it has only had to lay off five people, Jones said. In this photo taken Tuesday, May 12, 2009, Bill Shaffer, owner of Conicity Technologies, talks about edge preparation machines that can be leased to clients, at the company's headquarters in Latrobe, Pa. While the economy may continue to slog through the worst recession in more than two decades, sales at Conicity Technology, which offers a high-tech way of preserving the life of manufacturing tools, are up 75 percent in the past year. read more

AppRiver, LLC, a provider of e-mail messaging and Web security solutions, has announced the introduction of its Digital Disaster Recovery Program to protect businesses’ mission-critical e-mail operations during outages caused by natural disasters. The AppRiver Digital Disaster Recovery Program averts e-mail downtime by providing e-mail continuity services to businesses facing imminent natural disaster. When AppRiver detects a loss in connectivity with the e-mail server, the Digital Disaster Recovery Program will begin queuing the businesses’ incoming e-mail messages in one of its own securely located data centers until that company’s e-mail servers are up and running again. While the Florida Chamber of Commerce’s Hurricane Preparedness Program remains in effect, AppRiver developed the Digital Disaster Recovery Program to meet the growing demand for e-mail continuity services by any/all states impacted by natural disasters. read more

Stolen Sarah Palin E-Mails Were Public Record, Defense Lawyer Says – FOXNews- E-Business
May 22, 2009
Sarah Palin’s Yahoo e-mail account last year now says his client couldn’t have violated the Alaska governor’s privacy. Defense layer Wade Davies also argued that the Palin family photos that 20-year-old David Kernell allegedly obtained were not private either — because Palin and her family were “the subjects of untold numbers of photo-ops. Last September, a hacker allegedly used public information to guess Palin’s Yahoo password, reset it and then posted screenshots of her e-mail and the new password to an online forum at 4chan. In March prosecutors filed more charges against him, including one count of identity theft for allegedly impersonating Palin to access her e-mail account; one count of wire fraud for allegedly scheming to defraud Palin of property by obtaining information from her account and posting it to a Web forum; and one count of obstruction of justice for allegedly destroying evidence. read more
